Fitness Friday - Week 1

The time has come! Week 1 of 2015 for Fitness Friday! I am starting a new series where I talk about my fitness adventures for the week. I will also give you one challenge to complete each week. Make sure to let me know in the comments if you accomplished the challenge and enjoyed it!

The only forms of working out I have done in a while are creating at-home workouts for myself, walking/hiking, dancing, and completing workouts from online (Pinterest and Youtube). I recently got a YMCA membership. Every YMCA is different, so what mine has yours might not have and vice versa. This one has a TV on each individual piece of fitness equipment, which is awesome! It was definitely a huge selling point! :D

I have always been into fitness, so I am not starting to workout for the first time. I am just trying to become more consistent in my fitness (as stated in this post here). I also want to become more fit. I started this goal back in November.

In November I started going to the gym. I used the elliptical, bike, and treadmill. I tried out a Yoga class and quickly realized it wasn't for me. We barely did anything. The instructor kept saying, "Channel your soul." We literally had to meditate while channeling our soul. How do you channel your soul??? Safe to say it was a complete disaster! I definitely prefer my Yoga DVD's to the Yoga classes at my gym!

In December I tried out Zumba, the new love of my life. Since my first class, I have become completely obsessed! My teacher always keeps the classes high energy. She chooses the most fast-paced dances and doesn't let us slow down until the very last song, which is our warm-down. I love to dance, so this is definitely the class for me! I continued with the elliptical (25 min.), bike (10-15 min. level 6), and treadmill (walk on incline).

Now that you are caught up to 2015, I will tell you about my first week in January! I started on January 3rd with a Zumba class. I took a day off and then did Zumba again on the 5th. I tried out a new class on January 7th: Barre Buns. This class is amazing! I was a little sore immediately after the class. I used to be a ballerina, so this class definitely brought me back. If you can find a Barre Buns class (gym, DVD, online), I definitely recommend you do it!

I woke up really sore on the 8th so I took a day off. Today I am still a little sore. I planned to go swimming (it's not too strenuous on body), but the indoor pool at the YMCA is having air filtration problems. I decided to do one of my Yoga DVD's. It is called Quick Fix Power Yoga. I love the DVD! There are three 10 minute workouts. I did all three. If you are looking to start yoga or if you already love it, I recommend you check this out! Overall, I think this week was really successful!

I have been writing in my fitness diary for over a year now. What is a fitness diary? It is a journal where I chronicle each workout I complete. I always include the date and what I did. I make sure to be really detailed. Instead of writing "push-ups" I write "20 regular push-ups." This makes it more accurate. Depending on the workout I include how long it took to complete. For instance, if I am on the elliptical, I will write the time, level, and speed.

I really believe that a fitness diary helps you improve! I can look back and see my progress. I can see patterns that I want to continue or break. If I get stuck for a workout, I can see what I have already done and get ideas. It is really helpful and motivating!

We are going to start off these challenges slow and easy. The goal is to make fitness your lifestyle, which takes time. I want you to start your own fitness diary. It is only one week into January, so it will be easy to remember what you did (or didn't) do.

Since you are starting off your diary, write down if you haven't worked out at all yet. Once you start your first workout, you can just start putting down dates. You will know if the date skips from the 9th to the 12th that you didn't workout in between those days. If you want to be more precise, you can write down the days you don't workout and explain why.

What do you think about this challenge? Will you do it? Let me know in the comments below! Make sure to come back to the comments at the end of the week and let me know whether you accomplished the challenge successfully!
